Former UPFA Councillor arrested and given bail over alleged rape of foreigner

ECONOMYNEXT- Former Southern Provincial Councilor Krishantha Pushpakumara and his driver who were arrested by police this afternoon in connection with the alleged gang rape of a Chinese woman has been granted bail by the Galle Magistrate, the Police Media Division said.

Through a video released on social media, last October the victim said that she was allegedly gang-raped by Pushpakumara and his driver.

She also wrote to President Gotabaya Rajapaksa earlier this year requesting for his immediate intervention to ensure that the Magistrate Court orders to arrest former provincial councillor.

Pushpakumara was also arrested March last year by the Akmeemana police over a child abuse allegation and was released on bail.(Colombo/Mar5/2020)
