Four more COVID 19 cases detected – all associates of Beruwela patient

ECONOMYNEXT – Four people who had closely associated with the COVID 19 patient detected in Beruwela have tested positive for the virus the Health Department said.

The Director-General Health Services Dr Anil Jasinghe is quoted in a press release issued by the government this evening as saying that the total number detected as confirmed cases since the outbreak is now 214.

The four new cases are currently in quarantine at the Punani Centre, the release added.

As 56 patients have been discharged after making a full recovery the number of active COVID 19 cases in the hospitals is 151. Sri Lanka has recorded 7 deaths from the virus.

The number of patients who are in hospital under observation are 117.

The state sector health service has since this week aggressively increased the number of tests it is conducting on patients entering a hospital for other ailments as well.
