Gota has no “legal obstacle” to be the candidate – Kanchana
The Sri Lanka Podujana Peramuna says that former Secretary to the Ministry of Defense Goabaya Rajapaksa has “no legal obstacles to contest the Presidential elections.”
In response to comments made by the United National Party, United People’s Freedom Party MP Kanchana Wijesekara said yesterday Aug 1 that there were no obstacles.
The CeylonToday reported yesterday that Rajapaksa has received clearance from the United States affirming that he had renounced his American citizenship. The newspaper published a certificate which it said was a genuine document quoting Rajapaksa.
The presidential hopeful’s spokesman Municipal Councillor Milinda Rajapakse messaged RepublicNext saying the CeylonToday “report is true.”
On Wednesday a similar certificate that was circulated as a WhatsApp message was exposed as a fraud and Rajapaksa also said that was not a genuine document.
RepublicNext has not been able to confirm the veracity of the claim.
