Government responsible for safety of Security Forces personnel – Hesha
ECONOMYNEXT- Former Opposition MP Hesha Withanage is saying that the government should take full responsibility for putting the lives of Sri Lanka Navy officers at risk.
Speaking to reports this morning, he said even though the Navy officers have received good military training and are well disciplined they were put on the frontlines in the fight against COVID-19 by the government without even providing them with the required PPEs.
“So that is the reason why getting infected by the virus has become a bigger threat to the personnel in the tri forces,” Withange said.
Moreover, he said that the government has completely neglected the workforce of this country consisting of 6 million people who live on daily wages and over 100,000 people who had lost their jobs.
“The government isn’t talking about what is going to happen to them in the future,” he added.
“But still, the government has been unable to provide Rs 5000 to affected families under the relief programme even after 45 days since commencing the programme,” he said.
He also said he would like to remind the people that it was Basil Rajapaksa who started the programme of providing Rs 5000 to do his political agenda and by it, he has misled the country and made people beggars.
Rajapaksa has politicised the relief programme by including SLPP local and urban councilors the opposition politician charged.
“Someday when the COVID-19 fund is being audited, won’t there be a possibility for Basil Rajapaksa to be accused just like Arjun Mahendran if so we will have to say Basil Rajapaksa has also fled the country just like Mahendran,” he said.(Colombo/May2/2020)
