ECONOMYNEXT – Aggreko International Projects Limited and a unit of Sri Lanka’s Hayleys group have won a tender to supply 100MW of emergency thermal power to the national grid.
Aggreko International Projects Limited will supply 56 MW at the rate of Rs.28.063 per kilowatt hour, the state information office said.
A joint venture between Hayleys Aventura (Pvt) Ltd and SES Smart Energy Solutions Fzco will supply 44 MW at the rate of Rs.28.367 per kilowatt hour.
SES Smart Energy Solutions Fzco is based in the United Arab Emirates and specialises in supplying temporary power to fit customer specific needs which include fast track turnkey power rental services.
The Cabinet of ministers this week approved a proposal by the power ministry to award the tenders to the two bidders to ensure uninterrupted power supply in the next six months.
A statement said inadequate rainfall means water levels in hydropower reservoirs will go down, reducing their generation capacity.
The government had called international tenders to buy 100MW of additional power for six months.
