ECONOMYNEXT – A Sub-Inspector of Police working at the Buttala Police station is suspected to be the killer of the 30-year old woman whose headless body was found in a travelling bag in Central Colombo two days ago.
Police said the Sub-Inspectors body was found in a thicket near his home at Badalkumbura and he is believed to have taken his own life.
Police Spokesman DIG Ajith Rohana said that the victim is a young woman who lived in Kuruvita.
Police say investigations have revealed that the victim and the alleged perpetrator had stayed at a Guest House in Hanwella on February 28.
The man had been seen leaving the Guest House carrying the travelling bag on his own, Rohana said.
Police said that a DNA testing was being done on the woman’s body.
The gruesome find near busy Dam Street in inner-city Colombo had the country speculating wildly about the crime.
CCTV footage of a well-built man casually dragging the travelling bag and leaving it near several parked Tuk-tuks was widely circulated on Social Media and broadcast on TV.
The staff at the Guest House had then informed police about the couple.
Investigations are continuing. (Colombo March 3, 2021)
