Heavy rain hits the metropolis
Several places in Colombo District are flooded due to the heavy rain this afternoon.
Speaking to RepublicNext, Disaster Management Centre (DMC) Assistant Director Pradeep Kodippili said that Borella, Town Hall, Horton Place and Thunmulla have been affected the most in Colombo.
Meanwhile, the DMC reported in its situation report that a total of 15,568 people from 4,546 families have been affected due to today’s heavy falls.
“Very heavy showers above 150 mm are likely in parts of the Trincomalee, Batticaloa, Ampara, Mullaitivu, Nuwara-Eliya, Badulla and Monaragala districts,” the DMC said.
“The general public is kindly requested to take adequate precautions to minimise damages caused by temporary localised strong winds and lightning during thundershowers,” warned the Met Department.
