Improvised bomb found near Sri Lanka airport
ECONOMYNEXT – An improvised explosive device found on an approach road to Sri Lanka main airport north of Colombo had been safety defused, a military official said.
Sri Lanka Air Force said a so-called ‘pipe bomb’ had been found which had been blasted in a controlled explosion.
Sri Lanka’s airport is on high alert after eight explosions around Sri Lanka killed more than 200 people and injured 450 on Easter Sunday.
At least 30 foreigners may have been killed when bombs exploded in three hotels in Sri Lanka’s capital Colombo.
Authorities declared a curfew until further notice. But said airline passengers could use their tickets as curfew passes to go the airport.
Passengers have been asked to report to the airport up to 3.5 hours before their flights, due to extra security measures. (Colombo, April 22, 2019-SB)
