India delivers trains, engine to Sri Lanka under soft loan
ECONOMYNEXT – India has delivered the fourth of six Class S13 train sets to Sri Lanka along one Class M11 engine, the ministry of transport and civil aviation said.
The trains for Sri Lanka Railways are being supplied under an Indian government soft loan to the Sri Lankan government, a statement said.
The Class S13 diesel multiple-unit (DMU) trains were built for Sri Lanka Railways by India’s Integral Coach Factory and imported through RITES Ltd, an Indian state-owned firm.
Each DMU consists of two diesel-electric locomotives and 13 coaches.
The Class M11 engine unloaded at Colombo port is the fourth of 10 engines being supplied by India.
Another M11 engine and one more Class S13 DMU train will arrive in Colombo port from India in three weeks.
