India’s RITES gets Sri Lanka central expressway consultancy deal

ECONOMYNEXT – Indian engineering consultancy company RITES Limited has won a contract to provide advisory services to improve the road network connecting with the planned Central Expressway, linking Colombo with Kandy in the central hills.

Government spokesman Minister of Lands Gayantha Karunatilleke said the Cabinet of ministers this week approved a proposal for the contract by Higher Education & Highways Minister Kabir Hashim.

RITES Limited is an Indian government owned engineering consultancy company and the export arm of Indian Railways providing rolling stock overseas.

The project is for the improvement of roads which join the Central Expressway in Kandy and surrounding areas and will be funded with a loan from India’s Exim Bank, Karunatilleke said.
