The Navy has apprehended four Indians who were allegedly engaged in illegal fishing in Sri Lankan territorial waters yesterday (26).
Navy personnel arrested the suspects during a patrol carried out in the Northern seas off the Kachchathivu Island.
The apprehended Indian fishermen will be handed over to the Assistant Director of Fisheries in Jaffna for legal action, a statement from the Navy said.
The number of Indian fishing vessels that trespass Sri Lankan waters has dropped significantly due to continuous Navy patrols, it added.
