Its raining medals for Lankan athletes in Nepal
Sri Lanka has more medals than ever before in its history at the South Asian Federation Games 2019 which is being held in Kathmandu and Pokhara, Nepal.
Sri Lanka has reached the 218 medal mark for the first time in games history coming in at third place with 39 golds to its name as the eighth day of the games is comes to an end today (9 Dec).
Sri Lanka won 3 Gold, 5 Silver and 5 Bronze medals so far for the day while being able to win 5 Gold, 13 Silver and 11 Bronze yesterday.
The three Gold medals for the day came from Mathew Abeysinghe from the 50m butterfly,100m freestyle and 200m individual medley which is a total of 7 Gold medals from the champion swimmer.
On Saturday Sri Lanka was crowned as the athletics champions of the games with 15 Gold for the first time after 1991.
A superb performance was demonstrated in the 4 x 400 women finals by the Sri Lankan team consisting of Omaya Udayangani, Gayanthika Abeyrathne, Kaushalya Madushani and Dilshi Kumarasinghe. Dilshi won after she ran a blistering final lap taking her team from third place to First.
India has secured the first place over all with 138 golds while the host Nepal is in second place with 49 golds.
