Japan to give Sri Lanka state workers Rs400mn in scholarships

ECONOMYNEXT- The Japanese government said that it has granted 429 million rupees in scholarships for Sri Lankan public sector officials to enrol in graduate programs in Japan.

"Under the project, 17 public sector officials will be sent to pursue a 2-year Master or PhD degree from 2020 to 2022," the Japanese Embassy in Sri Lanka said.
 
"Areas of their degrees cover public policy, public finance, economics, business management, environmental management, disaster management and climate change."
 
The mission said that the grant, given under the Human Resource Development Scholarship is expected to train young executive officials in the public sector to qualify them as future national leaders in their fields.
 
Sri Lanka’s Finance Ministry said that the program will fund 150 masters’ degree students and 4 doctoral students from 2020 to 2022.
 
Since its inception in 2010, the program has supported 137 Sri Lankan public officials. (Colombo/Jul18/2019)
