Japan to help Sri Lanka combat global terrorism

A bilateral defence agreement between Sri Lanka and Japan was among matters taken up at discussions held between Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe and Japan’s State Minister of Foreign Affairs Toshiko Abe yesterday.

According to a statement issued by the Prime Minister’s Office, Abe has assured unstinted support to Sri Lanka in overcoming the threat posed by global terrorism.

The discussions covered the strengthening of defence ties between the two countries, as well as the implementation of an integrated programme in collaboration with India in a number of development sectors in Sri Lanka.
