ECONOMYNEXT – Democratic candidate Joe Biden has been elected President of the United States with Philadelphia projected for him by Associated Press, CNN and toher network has projected while President Trump contnues to make tweets falsely claiming voter fraud.
Kamala Harris, a becomes the first woman and minority Vice President.
“America, I’m honored that you have chosen me to lead our great country,” Biden said in a twitter.com message.
“The work ahead of us will be hard, but I promise you this: I will be a President for all Americans — whether you voted for me or not. I will keep the faith that you have placed in me.”
Celebrations broke out in the streets of Washington, Times Square in New York and in the rest of the US.
Kamala Harris becomes the first woman Vice President. She is also the first coloured person to be become Vice President. She is also of combined South Asian descent and Jamaican descent.
Her father had arrived in the US in 1961 and is an economics professor, and her mother, Shyamala Gopalan, had arrived from Tamil Nadu, India in 1958 to study at the University of California, Berkeley.
“I could not be prouder to congratulate our next President, Joe Biden and our next First Lady, Jill Biden,” ex-President Barrack Obama said in a statement.
“Also I could not be prouder to congratulate Kamala Harris and Doug Emhoff for Kamala’s ground breaking election as our next Vice President.”
“We are fortunate that Joe’s got what it takes what it takes to be President and already carries himself that way.
Obama went personally on the campaign trail.
Biden won the election with the highest total votes cast for any President of the US and the highest turnout.
Trump, a nationalist, has gone to court to stop counting in several states peddling conspiracy theories and has not conceded. Courts have already thrown out several cases.
Biden flipped (took back) Michigan and Wisconsin, former Democratic strongholds (Blue Wall states) which were taken by Trump in 2016.
Among the networks projecting a Biden win is Fox News, which helped promote the falsehoods that Trump uttered before and during his presidency.
Fact checkers have estimated the nationalist to have uttered over 25,000 falsehoods.
In the US, major networks ‘call’ or project states to have been won by a candidate long before the final result is certified by the Secretary of State.
The defeated candidate usually concedes and counting the balance and certification is an academic excuse.
But President Trump however is not conceding and is alleging voter fraud, claiming that postal or mail-in votes which Democrats used extensively are ‘illegal’. (Colombo/Nov07/2020)
