Sri Lanka has entered into a contract with a law firm from Saudi Arabia conducting legal proceedings related to the unnatural deaths of Sri Lankans in that country.
The legal proceedings relate to negotiating death compensation for the dependents of deceased Sri Lankan citizens who were killed as a result of negligence by a Third-Party.
The proceedings also pertain to the prosecution claims for “blood money” in cases of murder.
The amount of compensation for “blood money” is based on the percentage of responsibility. Blood money is to be paid not only for murder, but also in the case of unnatural death, interpreted to mean death in a fire, industrial or road accident, as long as the responsibility for it falls on the accused.
It is highly anticipated that the agreement would help avoid the delays in settling matters related to compensation of the aggrieved parties and meeting out justice effectively.
