Liquor stores may operate during curfew-relaxed hours: Sri Lanka Excise Department
ECONOMYNEXT – Licensed liquor stores and retailers may operate in areas where curfew will be relaxed starting tomorrow, the Excise Department of Sri Lanka said.
Outlets with a valid excise license will be permitted to conduct business during the hours the hours stipulated by the government.
Deputy Excise Commissioner Kapila Kumarasinghe said in a statement that liquor stores will be strictly required to follow government-issued guidelines on physical distancing and other measures to contain the spread of COVID-19.
Excise Department officials have been instructed to to pursue legal action against those who fail to follow the regulations, the statement said.
Issuing a clarification, the department said licensed liquor stores and retail outlets include so-called wine stores, bars and taverns, hotels, restaurants and nightclubs.
