Mahesh to introduce his policy statement next week
The National People’s Party (NPP) presidential candidate, former Army Commander General Mahesh Senanayake said that the policy statement of the party and civil society groups he represents will be launched next week.
Addressing the media at Sri Lanka Foundation Institute (SLFI) yesterday (08), Senanayake said that his party would treat every citizen as Sri Lankans, irrespective of their race, religion or political party.
“There are certain things for which we will give priority but we will give the foremost place to people. We will ensure unity and we consider all citizens as Sri Lankans. We have to change the political culture which has been existing in our country for 71 years. Each citizen has the responsibility to contribute his or her part to the country,” Senanayake said.
Commenting further, Senanayake said that his policies also aim to go towards economic security whilst safeguarding national security.
“By ensuring economic security, we will promote local business. At present, almost half of the Sri Lankan population is engaged in agriculture-based activities directly or indirectly. Our effort is to eliminate poverty which is among them and uplift their lives. We will also protect women’s rights and will create a society that appreciates women,” Senanayake added.
