Medical exams for drivers; government will decentralise the operation
The National Medical Transport Institute has decided to set up 3 new regional units make it easy for applicants for drivers licenses to get their medicals done without having to come to Colombo.
A centre in Awissawella will be set up for applicants in Ratnapura, Bandarawela and Nuwara Eliya a regional office will be established in Avissawella. A similar centre will cater to applicants from the North and East and the North Central Province and the third in Negombo will serve the people in North Western, Gampaha and other areas close by.
The Minister in charge Mahinda Amaraweera has also given instructions to set up an office in Anuradhapura with the facilities to print and issue driver’s licenses.
The objective of this program is to increase the availability of these services in a way that people in the North Central, North and East will be able to get those services without having to spend a lot of money and effort to get to Colombo.
