Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi made a short stopover in Colombo today (9) during which he was quite busy.
He was received at the airport by his counterpart Ranil Wickremesinghe.
Then he visited the St Anthony’s shrine at Kochchikade where he paid respects to the people who died here in the Easter Sunday attacks.
He was accompanied by Wickremesinghe, Malcolm Cardinal Ranjith the Archbishop of Colombo and Housing Minister Sajith Premadasa.
Later he held talks with President Maithripala Sirisena at the Presidential Secretariat.
The Indian PM called the talks “fruitful” in a tweet.
Modi who was on his way from visiting the Maldives also dropped in on Opposition Leader Mahinda Rajapaksa.
At the end of his visit the Indian Prime Minister tweeted;
“I had a short but immensely fruitful Sri Lanka visit.
Sri Lanka has a special place in our hearts.
I assure my sisters and brothers of Sri Lanka that India will always be there with you and support your nation’s progress.
Thank you for the memorable welcome and hospitality. “
