ECONOMYNEXT- Prime Minister Mahinda Rajapaksa is saying that immediate steps will be taken to eradicate the menace of the underworld and drugs which spread like an epidemic during the previous government.
The Prime Minister attending an election meeting held in Horana today, July 10 said that the youth and the people of this country have been severely inconvenienced due to the spread of the underworld and drug menace throughout the island during the last government.
He stressed that the spread is so great that current investigations are revealing that the very agency that has been set up to seize drugs have been selling drugs.
Prime Minister also said since currently, there is a serious danger of continuing drug and underworld activities within the prisons, the President has taken the initial steps to eliminate these issues.
Moreover, he said that he will give his fullest cooperation to the President to carry on these activities and make them succeed after forming the new government.
The PM added that he would not hesitate to intensify investigations into underworld activities and drug trafficking in order to expose the perpetrators to the public and punish them.
Further, he urged the people to fulfil their duty to create a better state in line with the decision taken by the President to create a new country. (Colombo, July 10, 2020)
