Navy refutes stories that it is withdrawing from public duties
ECONOMYNEXT- The Sri Lanka Navy is debunking stories that it is to temporarily withdraw from COVID-19 prevention duties as well as routine public security activities.
Navy Spokesman Lt Commander Isuru Sooriyabandara told EconomyNext that some news websites have reported that the Navy has decided to temporarily withdraw from COVID-19 duties as the number of COVID-19 infected Navy officers are increasing day by day.
“No such decision has been taken, those reports have no truth in them,” he said.
According to Army Commander Lt General Shavendra Silva as of yesterday evening, 15 Navy personnel were tested positive for COVID-19 bringing the total Navy personnel infected to 344.
Meanwhile, a Navy man who had direct contact with the Navy sailor identified positive to COVID-19 in Polonnaruwa area was discharged on Monday (4) from the Mulleriyawa hospital after complete recovery bringing total recovered Navy personnel to 2. (Colombo/May 6/2020)
