Nearly a third of voters have cast their ballots as of 11:00 am – Elections Commission

STEADY TRICKLE – Voters are overcoming their fears of Covid to come to the polling stations

ECONOMYNEXT- Despite Corona fears, nearly a third of Sri Lankans had voted in the Parliamentary General elections by 11:00 am today.

According to the National Elections Commission, the highest turnout of 40% of voters for the General Election 2020 were reported from the Monaragala and Batticaloa electoral districts as at 11 am.

Among the reported districts, the lowest of 20% was reported from the Puttalam electoral district.

Accordingly, Department of Government Information stated the voter turnout as at 11 am in the electoral districts are as follows,

Colombo 27%, Gampaha 26%, Kalutara 30%, Matale 36%,  Kandy 30%, Polonnaruwa 21% and Kegalle 30%, Galle 28%, Matara  37%, Hambantota 30%, Jaffna 28%, Vanni 30%, Badulla 35%  Rathnapura 34%, Digamadulla 31%, Anuradhapura  30% and Polonnaruwa 21%  (Colombo, August 5, 2020)
