No increase in Wheat Flour price
The government is vigorously denying that there has been an increase in the price of Wheat Flour and has complained to the Elections Commission against Media outlets that have reported the increase, a statement from the Ministry of Finance says.
Finance Minister Mangala Samaraweera has lodged a complaint against the Media outlets, it added.
The statement points out that the price of this essential commodity is controlled and that permission needs to be taken from the Consumer Affairs Authority and the Cabinet Sub-Committee on the cost of living.
In a separate statement, the Secretary to the Ministry of Economic Reforms and Public Distribution Chandani Wijayawardene said that no supplier could increase the price of Wheat Flour without authorization.
She also released a statement quoting the head of Prima Flour which said that the company has denied the report that the price has been increased.
