No serious incidents reported during polling – Chairman Elections Commission
ECONOMYNEXT- Election Commissioner Mahinda Deshapriya said that roughly about 70% of the eligible voters have cast their votes at the Parliamentary Election.
Addressing a press conference held after the close of the poll, he said that no serious cases of violations or violence were reported during the voting period.
“We contacted all the assistant election commissioners and senior DIG Priyantha Weerasooriya contacted all police stations and no serious incident was reported,” he said.
Considering the murder of Underworld figure Eron Ranasinghe aka ‘SF Lokka’ in Anuradhapura, Deshapriya said was the only serious incident that happens during the day and had no link to the elections.
Regarding the people who in quarantine centres who were not allowed to vote at the elections, he said that they need to change the election law in order to let these people vote.
According to the election commission, the voter turnout at the end of the voting period is as follows:
