ECONOMYNEXT – Drought has affected several districts in Sri Lanka with the authorities having to provide drinking water from bowsers to over 200,000 people, a spokesman for the Disaster Management Center said.
The worst affected was the north-central Polonnaurwa district which accounted for half the number needing drinking water followed by Batticaloa district in the east which accounted for almost a quarter of those affected.
The DMC spokesman Pradeep Kodippili said some rain has been forecast in a few areas but it would not be adequate.
