Two Fundamental Rights petitions challenging some aspects of the Emergency Regulations promulgated by President Maithripala Sirisena after the Easter Sunday attacks were filed before the Supreme Court today.
A three-judge bench decided today (10) to fix the challenge for support on July 5.
The Petitioners are Dr. Paikiasothy Saravanamuttu of the Centre for Policy Alternatives and Gamini Viyangoda of Puravesi Balaya.
In separate petitions they said the Emergency Regulations infringe on the powers of the Judiciary and also affect the Fundamental Rights of citizens.
The Judges on the bench were Justices Prasanna Jayawardhana, Murdu Fernando and S Thurairaja.
