President bans all face covers
Any garment or item which obstructs the identification of a person’s face will be banned with effect from today (29), the President’s Media Division (PMD) said.
The PMD said in a statement that President Maithripala Sirisena issued the directive banning all forms of face coverings under the ongoing Emergency Regulations with the intention of ensuring public safety.
The ban is implemented as a person’s face needs to be clearly exposed in order to establish the identity, the statement said.
The President has taken this decision to establish a society of peaceful coexistence by ensuring the national safety while not inconveniencing any community, it added.
