President says huge propaganda campaign under way to create panic about Covid-19 – Bandula
ECONOMYNEXT- The Navy COVID-19 cluster which appeared from the Welisara Navy Camp is three times bigger than the current Kandakadu cluster, said Co-Cabinet Spokesman, Bandula Gunawardena.
[Eds note: The Navy Cluster has produced 950 COVID-19 positive patients and the Kandakadu cluster, 534 patients, up to now according to the Epidemiological Unit of the Ministry of Health http://www.epid.gov.lk/web/images/pdf/corona_virus_report/sitrep-sl-en-16-07_100.pdf]
Gunawardena said that President Gotabaya Rajapaksa informed the cabinet that due to the fact that many had travelled to various parts of the country from the Welisara Navy Camp, the situation created by that cluster was three times worse than the current Kandakadu cluster.
Further, he said that a huge political propaganda campaign is currently taking place in the country to create panic among the general public about a second COVID-19 wave.
He said that when this COVID-19 pandemic had spread all around the world, to the point where it cannot be controlled and contained, “we were able to greatly reduce the number of deaths as a country under the foresight leadership of the President and the dedication and the keenness of the health officials, military personnel and general public,” Gunawardena added.
He also said that the President informed the cabinet that all the contacts who had come for training to the Drug Rehabilitation Centre and other parties have been correctly identified, while the Task Force for Prevention of COVID-19 regularly meets to discuss the situation and that the quarantine process is being carried out properly.
