Prime Minister assures government aid to develop places of worship
Prime Minister of Sri Lanka Ranil Wickremesinghe is promising government financial assistance to develop all religious places of worship.
He made this statement when he met with Hindu Priests of the Northern Province today (15 August)
Subsequently,, Hindu Priests highlighted the importance of engaging religious studies to prevent extremism and develop ones’ religious and spiritual self.
The head of the Nallai Adheenam met with the majority of the Hindu clergy, pointing out that a number of Kovils that were damaged during the war have still not been reconstructed.
A statement from the Prime Minister’s office states that Wickremesinghe had agreed to construct more places of worship if required by the people. However, he had said that such places would not be constructed unnecessarily.
Wickremesinghe had also noted that steps would be taken to bring more Hindu devotees from India and Malaysia to visit the Kataragama temple via the Mattala International Airport.
