The Prisons Department told the Appeal Court on Friday July 5 that it is yet to receive the orders to execute any prisoners on death row.
Prisons Commissioner T M J W Thennakoon also gave an undertaking that he will not authorize any executions until July 17 even if the orders did arrive.
He said that he has not received any such order from the President.
President Maithripala Sirisena told Reporters on June 26 that he had signed the death warrants to execute four persons on death row who were involved in large scale drug distribution.
The statement was made as the court heard a Fundamental Rights Petition against the death penalty filed by Journalist Malinda Seneviratne.
The Justices decided to call the case on July 17.
