ECONOMYNEXT – Sri Lanka’s Department of Meteorology has forecast increased wind speeds in sea areas off of the Western, Southwestern and Southern provinces for Thursday (14).
Naval and fishing communities have been advised to exercise caution.
Wind speeds in the deep and shallow sea areas off the aforementioned coastal regions can increase up to 60-65 kilometres per hour in the next 36 hours, the Met Department said in a statement issued Thursday afternoon.
“These sea areas can be rough or very rough at times and sea waves can be up to 2.5-3.0 meters in height,” the Met Department said.
The department reiterated the Navy and fisherfolk must be vigilant to avoid any casualties. (Colombo/Oct14/2021)
