Royal Navy sends warship to Sri Lanka after four years
ECONOMYNEXT – The Royal Navy’s HMS Defender, an air defence warship deployed in the Indian Ocean supporting forces fighting Isis terrorists, is calling at Colombo port to take on stores and fuel.
“This is the first time in four years that a RN warship has visited Sri Lanka, a country with which the United Kingdom shares a long military history,” a British High Commission statement said.
“The ship’s visit now is a welcome signal of the closer defence relations the two countries are developing.”
HMS Defender is on a nine month deployment to the Middle East working with the French Carrier Task Group.
