Sajith turned down Premiership many times – Mannapperuma

UNP Parliamentarian  State Minister Ajith Mannapperuma says NDF presidential candidate Sajith Premadasa was invited 71 times to take the Prime Minister position before the Constitutional crisis that happened last year.

He also said that Premadasa could have been the PM and taken the party leadership at that point but he refused it as he said clearly said he will only use the democratic path to gain those positions.

Further, he said Opposition leader Mahinda Rajapaksa was able to creep into that position only because Premadasa refused.

Speaking to media this morning (24 Oct) at Colombo he said Rajapaksa offered the SLPP presidential candidacy to his younger brother Gotabaya Rajapaksa only because his son Namal Rajapaksa could not run for the presidency due to age restrictions.

Mannapperuma also said when there were legal questions raised about Gotabaya’s citizenship they decided to introduce their elder brother as a possible candidate.

He also said that it is like a royal family where only the family members can rule, “Their the rulers and the people of the country are slaves,” he added.

The state minister said that Gotabaya would never come to a face to face debate with Premadasa as he is scared.

He said that people who went behind ‘Viyathmaga’ are completely lost today as Gotabaya cannot answer any question from the Viyathmaga audience because he is just a puppet which makes speeches based on what others have prepared for him.

And “in those events people are made to praise him while he cannot talk about himself,” he added.

Although Gotabaya had said a few days ago that he will convert the state enterprises which are now running at a loss under a loss to profit-making enterprises, the Mihin Lanka in which he was the chairman made millions of losses under him as he used it to fulfil the needs of his family members rather than the people of this country.
