Sajith wants more COVID 19 tests done
ECONOMYNEXT-Former Leader of the Opposition Sajith Premadasa is proposing that the government extend the number of tests done to identify COVID-19 patients in Sri Lanka.
He made this proposal at the party leaders meeting held today at Temple Trees.
Premadasa said that the only about 150-200 Polymerase Chain Reaction (PCR) test are done daily to identify COVID-19 patients while other countries with a similar population do about 160,000 tests per day
He added that only 3,007 such tests have been done in Sri Lanka to identify COVID-19 patients according to government statistics.
He also had asked the government to check on the suitability of using the Antibody tests which is also used to identify COVID-19 patients worldwide on our people and implement it quickly.
Further, he had pointed out that there is a shortage in Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) for army, police and health personnel fighting against COVID-19 in Sri Lanka and asked to provide them as soon as possible.
Former Opposition Leader has also said they would practically support to cover up the shortage of equipment in the health sector but asked the government intervention to solve it quickly.
Also, he had shown that there are contradictory practical differences between the order given by the President and executing them at the ground level.
So he had asked to use state officers without any politics involved to provide relief services to people and only allow politicians to give in their proposals to relief plans and not allow them to distribute reliefs to address the differences.(Colombo/Apr2/2020)
