School re-opening could take at least another month – Minister
ECONOMYNEXT – The government is yet not fixing dates for schools to re-open and it would be done only on the advice of the health authorities Education Minister Dullas Alahapperuma said.
Speaking at an event in Matara on Monday, May 11, the Minister said re-opening would take at least another month.
“Opening the schools will be the final stage of the normalization process,” he said.
Schools, he said would have to be sanitized and the Ministry has been advised to keep the buildings closed for four days after the sanitization is carried out.
He said that every school will be provided with hand-washing facilities keeping with the health guidelines which require foot-operated taps.
Schools will also be provided with thermometres to check the body temperature of the students.
He said the Advanced Level and Ordinary Level students will be admitted at first and the younger children accommodated later. (Colombo May 12, 2020
