Schools, universities, tutories to remain shut in Sri Lanka amid COVID-19 resurgance

ECONOMYNEXT – All schools, preschools, universities and private tutories in Sri Lanka will remain closed until further notice as daily COVID-19 cases continue to rise, Minister of Education Prof G L Peiris said.

“The government is fully focused on taking forward our students’ education, but their health is priority at the moment,” Peiris told reporters today.

Students will be notified when schools and other educational institutes reopen three days in advance, giving them to prepare, he said.

Sri Lanka closed down all schools, preschools and piriven (monastic schools) in the island on April 27 till April 30, extending the closure till May 07.

Health authorities detected 1,895 COVID-19 cases in a 24 hours period that at ended at 6am today. (Colombo/May07/2021)
