Shafi case; Kurunegala hospital director complains against CID
Director of the Kurunegala Teaching Hospital Sarath Weerabandara has complained against the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) alleging that officers had obstructed his duties when they had come to the hospital to probe the Shafi case on July 3.
The Police Spokesman Ruwan Gunasekara told reporters today July 30 that Weerabandara had lodged the complaint at the Kurunegala Police station yesterday.
The Police spokesman said the CID officers had gone to the hospital on 3 July to record statements from three Radiologist and take important documents in connection to Dr Shafi’s case into the custody of CID.
Then the Director had allegedly obstructed the duties of the officer and had not allowed them to record statements saying that the Magistrate has ordered that the investigations be stopped.
But Gunasekara said that the Magistrate had only ordered to stop the HSG test to check the fertility of the women who complained against Dr Shafi and not the investigations.
So when CID reported facts to the Magistrate on the next court day on 11 July they had said that Weerabandara had obstructed their duties when recording statements at the hospital.
The CID has also got a court order to investigate the Director of the Hospital Sarath Weerabandara for alleged obstruction under Section 183 of the Penal Code.
