Showers and winds to increase in coming days
Showery and windy condition prevailing in the island is expected to continue, the Department of Meteorology said today (23).
Wind speeds in the Northern, North-central, North-western provinces and Trincomalee and Hambantota districts are likely to increase up to 60kmh at times, the Department said. Increase in showers, meanwhile, in the Southwestern part of the island is expected to continue.
Showers or thundershowers are expected to occur in the Western, Central, Sabaragamuwa, Southern and North-western provinces and several spells of showers may occur in the Northern Province and the Badulla and Anuradhapura districts.
Heavy falls above 100mm are likely in some areas in the Sabaragamuwa province and the Nuwara- Eliya district, while heavy falls above 75mm are likely in some areas of the Western and Southern provinces and in the Kandy and Matale districts.
“Showers or thundershowers will also occur in parts of the Ampara and Batticaloa districts after 2.00 pm,” the Met Department added.
