Six Indians nabbed with more than two tons of Beedi leaves
The Sri Lanka Navy has nabbed six Indian nationals with 2379kgs of Beedi leaves in the Northwestern seas yesterday (July 29).
The fishermen have been arrested in the seas off the St. Anne’s Church Thalavila along with their fishing dhow, the Navy said.
The Navy has found 74 packages containing Beedi leaves in the fishing vessel and the seized packages have been handed over to the Colombo Customs whereas the arrested Indians and fishing dhow have been handed over to the police for onward legal action.
In this year over 27,000 kgs of Beedi leaves have been seized thus far, the navy added.
