SL has stocks of fuel to draw if war breaks out in the Gulf -CPC

The Ceylon Petroleum Corporation (CPC) is saying that it has sufficient stocks of fuel to supply local consumers even if the fuel supply to Sri Lanka gets hit by growing tensions in the Gulf region.

CPC states that several fuel vessels are scheduled to arrive in Sri Lanka in shortly and that it already has sufficient stocks of fuel for 19 days and added that fuel tankers carrying 16,000 tonnes of fuel and 15,000 tonnes of fuel are due to arrive this month.

Also, CPC says that it is exploring the purchase of fuel from Singapore and Malaysia if fighting breaks out in the Gulf hampering shipping in the region.

Minister of Power and Energy Mahinda Amaraweera has instructed the authorities to use the fuel tanks in the Hambantota harbour which have a storage capacity of 71,000 tons of fuel.

According to current consignments, 47,947 tons of 92 Octane petrol, 16,000 tons of 95 Octane petrol , 111,957 tons of Lanka Auto Diesel, 4,463 tons of Super Diesel, 38,086 tons of aviation fuel and 70,130 tons of furnace oil are in storage, states CPC.
