SLFP to decide their course of action on presidential election on Sept 2 -Duminda
Parliamentarian Duminda Dissanayake said that the Sri Lanka Freedom Party (SLFP) will announce its decision regarding the presidential election on 2 September.
At a media briefing yesterday 1 Aug, Dissanayake said they will have time to decide on a winning plan and the candidate after looking at the election platforms and candidates proposed by the United National Party (UNP) and Sri Lanka Podujana Peramuna (SLPP) on 5 and 11 August respectively.
He also said that they will support a candidate who will align with the party policies.
There is intense told RepublicNext that President Maithripala Sirisena would not be seeking a second term, but SLFP General Secretary Dayasiri Jayasekara denied that saying a decision has not yet been made.
Dissanayake added that former Secretary to the Ministry of Defense Gotabaya Rajapaksa should be more open on the issue of US citizenship.
He also said that according to his knowledge Rajapaksa has only the letter confirming that the documents related to the removal of his dual citizenship were received.
Dissanayake also added that if the SLPP wants Gotabaya to be the candidate then Mahinda Rajapaksa should allow it as he is from the family and he would lead them to a huge victory.
