Army Commander Lt. Gen. Mahesh Senanayake said yesterday (16) that the soldier who was seen in CCTV footage seemingly assisting an anti-Muslim mob was found to be not at fault.
The video shows the solider making a hand gesture to a mob during a violent incident that occurred in Nattanidiya in Thummodara last Monday (13)
Releasing a special media statement, the Army Chief explained that the soldier had not invited the mob but instead had fixed the strap of the firearm.
An inquiry into the incident had established the soldier’s innocence, after viewing and analysing the video several times on a widescreen.
The Army Commander also had appraised the National Security Council about the video and the hand gesture of the soldier, the statement said.
