ECONOMYNEXT – The Sri Lanka Army soldier who died yesterday upon collapsing at the Dambulla bus terminal suffered from epilepsy, Army Commander Lt Gen Shavendra Silva said.

A video that went viral on social media showed the soldier in question collapse near the public toilet at the bus terminal, but fearing a possible COVID-19 infection, no one came forward to help him.

Silva told reporters this afternoon that the soldier had left one camp and was on his way to another to report to duty when the incident occurred.

“The postmortem is underway, after which we will be able to share more details,” he said.

Meanwhile, the police media division told EconomyNext earlier that the cause of death was still unknown.

The deceased was a 23-year-old from Galewela, Pallepola and was attached to the Sri Lanka Army Volunteer Force at Kosgama. (Colombo/May5/2020)
