Southern Expressway: Final stretch opens to public

The final stretch of the Southern Expressway was declared open on Sunday by President Gotabaya Rajapaksa and Prime Minister Mahinda Rajapaksa.

The last part of the now 222 kilometre-long highway is from Godagama to Barawakumbuka, and has six interchanges between Matara to Hambantota at Aparekka, Beliatta, Kasagala, Angunakolapelessa, Barawakumbuka and Sooriyawewa.

The Road Development Authority now says travellers can go to Kataragama from Homagama in four and a half hours.
