The South-west Monsoon is expected to get activated over the island from tonight, the Department of Metrology said today (03).
Showers and winds are expected to increase across the island, particularly in the South-western part as a result of the Monsoon, the Met Department said in a statement.
Showers are expected to occur in Western, Southern, Central, Sabaragamuwa, North-western provinces and Jaffna district and in elsewhere particularly in the evening.
The Met Department further noted that heavy falls above 100 mm are expected at some places in Sabaragamuwa, Central, Western, North-western provinces and in Galle and Matara districts whereas heavy falls above 50 mm can be expected in Eastern and Uva provinces.
Gusty winds up to 40 – 50 kmh are also expected across the country, particularly in the Central Hills, the Met Department added.
