Sri Lanka adds two more Covid patients to bring total to 2,986
ECONOMYNEXT-Sri Lanka has identified two new COVID-19 patients as at 6 am this morning on August 28, the National Operations Centre for Prevention of COVID-19 (NOCPOC) said.
Both patients are returnees from abroad, one from UAE who was being quarantined at Pampemadu quarantine centre and the other from Kuwait who was being quarantined at the Pelwehera centre.
With these new cases, the total of confirmed COVID-19 patients in the island has risen to 2,986, while 67 Individuals currently are under investigation in hospitals and 144 are active cases.
Eleven patients returned home after recovering as at 6 am this morning and the total recovered from Covid 19 in Sri Lanka has risen to 2,830 the centre reported.
NOCPO statement said out of newly recovered patients 10 are detainees from Kandakadu Rehabilitation centre.
The number of patients reported from the Kandakadu cluster has increased to 639, out of which 518 are detainees, 67 are staff, 5 invited staff members, 48 close contacts and 1 close contact of the patient found from Welikada prison.
A total of 604 have recovered from the Kandakadu cluster while 35 are still undergoing treatment.
A total of 69 returnees arrived in Sri Lanka 47 are from Doha, Qatar and 22 from Dubai.
NOCPOC said that all the returnees will be directed to quarantine centres controlled by the tri-forces upon their arrivals.
Meanwhile, the number of people in quarantine in 69 centres run by the armed forces is 7,122.
A total of 219,162 PCR tests have been done in the island so far with 2,110 PCR tests carried out yesterday.
A total of 308 had concluded their quarantine process at the military-run centres by 6 am today morning, NOCPOC said, bringing the total number of completed quarantines in Sri Lanka to 33,695.
