Sri Lanka approves feasibility for 100 MW solar power park
ECONOMYNEXT – The Sri Lankan government this week approved a feasibility study to build a 100MW Solar power park in Siyambalanduwa, in southern Monaragala, one of three such parks planned.
The proposal by Ranjith Siyambalapitiya, Minister of Power and Renewable Energy, for the feasibility study was approved by the Cabinet of Ministers, the information department said.
The government is expanding solar energy power capacity in keeping with the current global trend in generating electricity through renewable energy sources.
Already Sri Lanka has solar power plants generating 11.3 MW connected to the national grid and about 30 MW are being generated by households and commercial users under net metering.
