ECONOMYNEXT – Sri Lanka has asked tourists from 48 countries to eligible for a visa without payment, to apply for apply online get it prior to coming to Colombo to avoid being held up at airport.
“The exemption is only for the fee, not the visa to enter the country. It is still necessary for these tourists to have visa to enter in to the country,” Sri Lanka’s Controller of Immigration Pasan Ratnayaka said.
Visitors who want to come to Sri Lanka should log in to www.eta.gov.lk and apply for the visa. No fee is charged from 48 countries.
The immigration authorities will then check the passports for blacklists and other processes and then issue an electronic travel authorization to be presented to at the regular passport control counters at the airport.
But many tourists were coming to the country and line up at the immigration counters and find that they have no visa.
Sri Lanka has separate visa on arrival facility as well for which documentation then has to be completed at the airport.
“They have to then go on a different queue and get a visa on arrival,” Tourism Minister John Amaratunga said.
“The most convenient way is to apply it online before traveling to Sri Lanka.”
Tourists who have a visa either paid or free are swiftly cleared by immigration. (Colombo/Aug28/2019)
