Sri Lanka budget approved with more than two thirds majority
ECONOMYNEXT – Sri Lanka’s budget was approved by parliament Friday with an overwhelming majority of 107 votes, far in excess of what the government had hoped for.
Legislators voted 162 for and 55 against to endorse the 2017 appropriation bill by a huge two thirds majority. Seven members, including former president Mahinda Rajapaksa, were absent.
The committee stage debate of the budget begins on Saturday and the final vote after the Third Reading will be on December 10. (COLOMBO, Nov 18, 2016)
